A board lot is the standard trading unit on Bursa Malaysia, set at 100 shares. When placing a normal buy or sell order, quantities are expressed in board lots rather than individual shares, so buying “1 lot” of a stock means buying 100 shares. This means the minimum amount needed to buy a stock is its share price multiplied by 100, plus brokerage fees — a stock trading at RM2.50 requires at least RM250 for one board lot. Trading in quantities smaller than a full board lot is possible through what’s called odd lot trading, but it typically involves wider spreads and thinner liquidity than the main board lot market, so most retail investors trade in full lots unless they have a specific reason to do otherwise. See how to start investing on Bursa Malaysia for how board lots factor into funding a first purchase.
